POTTERS v EASTBOURNE - PREVIEW

Friday 23 June, 2017
STOKE entertain the high flying Eastbourne Eagles in the Travel Plus National League on Saturday night at Loomer Road, 7pm.

The Eagles are currently second in the league table and are currently unbeaten in their opening six matches while the Potters are currently in ninth place.

The A.R. Richards Potters welcome back Paul Burnett who has returned to the club having started the season on the sidelines and Burnett comes into replace David Speight who retired from the sport last month. The Potters will again utilise the rider replacement rule to replace Tony Atkin while Mildenhall’s former National League Riders Champion Daniel Halsey comes in as a guest for the unavailable David Wallinger.

The Eagles who are in good form are led into action by youngster Tom Brennan who has started the season in sensational style averaging 9.71 so far taking him from reserve to number one in the Sussex sides’ averages despite him having the added pressure of revising and taking his GSE examinations. He is well supported by skipper Georgie Wood and recent returnee to the sport Jake Knight who has resumed like he’d never been away from the sport with Mark Baseby also adding solid support to the top three with the Eagles also using rider replacement to cover for Matt Bates. Eastbourne show how solid their side is with reserve Charley Powell averaging over six points a match and completing the Eagles line-up is Kean Dicken who steps in as a guest for the Sussex outfit.

Potters team manager Malcolm Vasey commented “We will have to start the meeting well and give Eastbourne something to think about. They are a powerful looking side and all have the ability to win races and they are on the crest of a wave having gone unbeaten in their opening six matches they have ridden in and we hope we can be the first team to lower their colours. We welcome back Paul Burnett back into the side and with Shaun (Tedham) I feel we can have the edge in the reserves races and we also welcome guest Daniel Halsey who rode well against us for his club Mildenhall a few weeks back and chalked up a double figure score and hopefully he can do that again for us. We will need to be at our very best on Saturday and we will do our best to come up with a positive result.”
